San Francisco, 2013. A beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon in October, our second summer. A bunch of young gay guys hanging out in Dolores Park, day drinking, talking nonsense. Nearby, the faint rhythm of a drum circle, hipsters trying to walk a tightrope, and the SF skyline in the distance.
Drew and Ken had met briefly earlier that year, in May. Ken thought Drew was wicked handsome, which made it easier to hang out with him (who doesn't want cute friends right?). They got to talking. A couple hours went by, the sun started to set. They migrated to a burrito place in the Mission. Still chatting, laughing. Then they went out to a bar to go dancing in the Castro. It wasn't until Drew had a moment alone with Ken by the corner of the bar that he mustered up the nerve to simply say, "I'd really like to kiss you right now".
Fast forward 8 years, and Ken and Drew have shared quite a few adventures together. They’ve travelled to Burning Man, Japan, Yosemite, Barcelona, Thailand…. oh and Rhode Island too, to meet the future in-laws! They’ve had a few more metaphorical journeys too, from moving in together and adopting a kitten, to getting Ken over the PhD finish-line (a joint endeavor indeed), to Drew completing a marathon.
Now they’re excited to jump headfirst into their next adventure…. the rest of their lives together.
